Canadian Blood Services recognizes the passing of Justice Horace Krever

With sadness, Canadian Blood Services recognizes the passing of Justice Horace Krever, on April 30, 2023.

Justice Krever was the Commissioner of the Inquiry into the Blood System in Canada from 1993-1997, and his recommendations laid the foundation upon which Canadian Blood Services was built, following the tragedy of the tainted blood crisis.

Twenty-five years later, thanks to the guiding principles that Justice Krever outlined for the national blood system, Canadian Blood Services continues to work diligently to safeguard the system, ensure security of supply, and earn the trust of Canadians.

On the twentieth anniversary of Justice Krever’s report, Dr. Graham Sher, CEO of Canadian Blood Services published an open letter to Justice Krever, thanking him for his service to Canadians, contribution to health care in this country and in fact, on the international stage. This letter reflects upon the legacy of Justice Krever’s stalwart commitment to ensuring history is not repeated.

Justice Krever’s memory will endure, and his legacy will remain at the core of Canadian Blood Services operations every day.
