My son has needed liver and kidney transplants

When my son was 17 years old, he was diagnosed with a liver problem. He finished high school at home as he wasn't well enough to attend the high school.

At age 22, he received a liver. I have no idea how much blood was required for the 6-8 hour surgery, but I'm sure it was substantial. At age 39, my son had a kidney transplant, with me being the 'live' donor. He was able to return to a completely normal life. Now, at age 48, he's waiting for a new liver again. Through all of this, he has remained very strong.

Without blood donation, he would not have survived. This inspired me to donate and it's the most gratifying feeling possible!
