At 19, I was working at the American Hospital of Paris, and that's where I started donating blood. I only stopped during my five pregnancies or periods of breastfeeding.
I've always felt an enormous sense of satisfaction being able to save someone's life in need, and who knows? One day it might be my turn!
I'm proud to be part of the blood donor network in Canada and donate blood four times a year. Since then, I've donated in France (Neuilly-sur-Seine), Vancouver, Victoria, Port Alberni, Nanaimo, Qualicum Beach, Parksville, and now Courtenay.
Did you know that 45 years ago in France, I received a full meal and a glass of wine after my donations? Things have certainly changed…
Thank you to the people who schedule the appointments, the nurses who are always welcoming, and the volunteers who spoil us with fruit juice and cookies.
My next appointment is already booked, and my goal is to have donated 100 times in my lifetime.
