Bone Marrow Donor

In 2016, while donating blood, I was asked if I wanted to join the stem cell registry and I agreed. I thought nothing of it — even forgetting I signed up for it — until in 2022 I got a call saying I was a potential match to a person needing stem cells. I continued the process and found out I was a perfect match!

Beyond excited, I donated my bone marrow through surgery without knowing a single thing about the recipient. The whole process and procedure went so smoothly. Every step of the way Canadian Blood Services was there to take care of my needs. I had no side effects from the surgery and am still doing very well. The photo I have included is of me on the day of my donation.

I am very excited to share that I have been in contact with the recipient and they are currently CANCER FREE! It is truly a blessing that I was able to help someone in need. Only in my dreams something like this would happen, but thanks to Canadian Blood Services my dream came true!

I would like to thank everyone involved in this process, together we truly do make a difference.
