David G. Preston

Donor

Representing New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island

Inspired as a child by seeing his mother’s blood donor card, David was fascinated by the idea of preserving a life simply by making a blood donation. His mother passed away this spring, and David takes comfort that she knew about his selection as an honouree this year.

Donating blood became serious for David during university when he asked his friend Dan Armstrong to consider donating – he too is now a dedicated donor and coordinates the blood drive for his employer IBM in Saint John, NB. Then Carol from the credit union took up his challenge and has given approximately 70 times. David’s two sons are now blood donors, and when the grade two teacher asked his second son what he wanted to be when he grew up, Cormick said: a blood donor, just like Dad!

Doing the math, David’s 166 whole blood donations are the equivalent of 28 years of never missing the opportunity to help people enjoy a greater quality of life. He appreciates that the support of his wife Sherry and their sons make his contributions possible.

David is continuously encouraging others to make a difference for patients in need.
